ANTONIO SÁNCHEZ & MIGRATION
Antonio Sanchez: drums. Thana Alexa: vocal. David «Chase» Baird: tenor saxophone and EWI. John Escreet: keyboards. Orlando Le Fleming: double and electric bass
Mexican drummer Antonio Sanchez is one of the leading players in his field. A permanent member of Pat Metheny Group and celebrated for his solo soundtrack to the Oscar-winning 2015 film “Birdman”. He lives in the United States and has dedicated his latest album “Lines in the Sands” to immigration, as a response to President Donald Trump’s policy and his infamous anti-immigrant wall. At the helm of Migration Quintet, Sanchez has composed a work with a clear civil and political content: three songs, including Home, whose lyrics were written by the Croatian origin singer, Thana Alexa, are set between two suites lasting over twenty minutes each, where melancholy, strength, and hope are perfectly balanced. Jazz in the days of souverainism.
