Malaysian bassist Linda May Han Oh, known as Linda Ho, belongs to the new generation of musicians who are making a name for themselves on the world stage. The presence and relevance of women in instrumental jazz deserves an entire history of its own. Today, thankfully, these musicians are irreversibly erasing decades of exclusion and prejudice. Linda Ho brings to jazz a concept that combines lyrical propensity and timbric research, with writing that ranges from classic references to avant-garde jazz. Just take a glance at her collaborators, from Pat Metheny, with whom she is the permanent bass player, to the most beguiling musicians of contemporary avant-jazz, such as Greg Ward, Matt Mitchell and Ches Smith, who played on her latest album “Aventurine”, is enough to understand the breadth of her musical vision.
