PAOLO FRESU, RICHARD GALLIANO, JAN LUNDGREN
Paolo Fresu: trumpet, flugelhorn, effects. Richard Galliano: accordion, accordina. Jan Lundgren: piano.
Our journey through Rome Jazz Festival ends where it began, reminding us with the name of the project, Mare Nostrum, of that Mediterranean that is a memory and a promise of a fertile coexistence. Mare Nostrum is not just the meeting of three strong personalities, Sardinian trumpeter Paolo Fresu, French accordionist Richard Galliano, and Swedish pianist Jan Lundgren, who have always practised the melding of genres, the hybridisation of language, and the pleasure of discovery and engagement. Each musician gifts us their compositions and asks us to share them. All of which is completed with repertoire tracks from different traditions, parts of the world and practices, in a ten-year collaboration that has produced three albums, each recorded in their respective countries of origin.
Mare Nostrum is an open view of jazz music and the world.
